On the 1841 census Samuel and his family are recorded living in Cheshire Street. In 1840 a son named Hugh is born, followed by another daughter, Ann in 1843.

Merging of Shoemaking Families
It is into this shoemaking family, that Richard Jones marries, meeting Sarah Jones when he was an apprentice under her father's tuition.
And yet more Shoemakers....
Hugh Jones
Hugh is the third child and only son of Samuel and Martha Jones. He was born in 1840 and was either born or baptised on the 26th August 1840. The 1861 census shows Hugh working with his father as a Shoemaker in Bell Lane. Nine years later, Hugh married Eliza in 1870, and by 1871 they are living in Cheshire Street, Hugh is working as a Shoemaker. In 1872 they had their first child, a son named Samuel John Jones. A year later a daughter was born named Agnes Winifred, and their third child was born in 1878, Henry Hugh Jones. This child though was born in Newcastle Under Lyme, so between the 1877 Mercer & Crocker Driectory of 1877 and Henry's birth in 1878, the family leave Market Drayton and move to Staffordshire. (In the Mercer and Crocker Directory of 1877, Hugh is a Shoemaker in Bell Lane, so still working at his father's workshop). Kellys Directory for 1880 lists Hugh in Merrial Street under the heading Shoemakers. The census the following year in 1881, confirms the family in Merrial Street, Newcastle Under Lyme.
Sadly in 1884, Hugh died aged just 43. It is not yet known what happens to his wife and family.
